From Scrunchies to Something More: The Story Behind Threads

What started as a humble experiment with a sewing machine has grown into something we never quite imagined - and we’re so excited to share the Threads journey with you.

Hi! I’m Michelle, founder of Threads, an Australian-made accessories brand born in my living room during the pandemic. With my youngest starting school and some rare spare time on my hands, I dusted off a sewing machine (thanks to my mum) and followed a few YouTube tutorials to make my very first scrunchie. I figured, how hard could it be?

As it turns out, that little scrunchie sparked something much bigger.

Soon after, I received my first bulk order from a local school, and then word of mouth did the rest. I began creating custom pieces for schools, sports clubs, local businesses - and everyday families just like mine. The orders kept coming, and what started as All Things Scrunchie grew into something more: a full range of accessories designed to bring a bit of fun, function, and personal flair into people’s lives.

Today, Threads offers everything from hair accessories and personalised gifts to pet gear, satin pillows, and special event collections. Each item is made with care from my backyard studio in Pitt Town, NSW. Most of our products are handmade, customisable, and designed to celebrate the moments (big and small) that matter most to you.

What makes Threads special? It's the community. The ideas, feedback, and requests from customers have shaped every step of this journey and continue to inspire every new product we create.
